Progetto Finanziato dall'Unione Europea

The construction is dated to the 1st-2nd century BC.

In 1757 an epigraph was found which is now preserved in the lapidarium of the abbey of Montecassino, which bears this inscription:

UMMIDIA C.F. QUADRATILLA AMPHITEATRUM ET TEMPLUM CASINATIBUS SUA PECUNIA FECIT

(Ummidia Quadratilla, daughter of Caius, built the amphitheatre and the temple for the people of Cassino at her own expense)

Daughter Lucius Ummidius Durmius Quadratus, consul in 40 B.C., died at a late age in 107 A.D. According to antiquarian tradition she was buried in what is now called the Tomb of the Ummidi.
