“Their name liveth for evermore”  This inscription welcomes visitors to the Commonwealth War Cemetery.

This is a quote from the King James Bible, suggested by Rudyard Kipling as an epitaph.

The focal point of the memorial and cemetery is the rectangular basin in which the Cross of Sacrifice is reflected.

The memorial was designed, like the cemetery, by Louis de Soissons and inaugurated on 30 September 1956 by the British Field Marshal Harold Alexander.

The rows of tombstones are the silent testimony of the terrible legacy of the war, yet the rustle of the leaves of the great trees seems to whisper words of peace and hope.
